Awang Haji Mohd Hendra bin Haji Meraji and Dayang Hajah Norlaila binti Haji Metussin, emerged as the Champion Qari and Qariah for the Musabaqah Al-Quran Reading for male and female categories, aged 40 and above for mosques, suraus and religious halls nationwide. The prize presentation ceremony was held this morning at Muhammad Jamalul Alam Mosque, Kuala Belait.

74 participants representing mosques, suraus and religious halls nationwide took part in the competition. Prizes were handed over by Awang Haji Amirol Hafidzin bin Haji Muhammad, Acting Belait District Officer. Among the objective was to improve the quality of Al-Quran reading and enculture the reading of Al-Quran as a daily practise. Held in conjunction with the Hijrah New Year Celebration, the Musabaqah was jointly-organised by the Department of Mosque Affairs, Ministry of Religious Affairs; Muhammad Jamalul Alam Mosque Takmir Committee, Kuala Belait and Department of Mosque Affairs, Belait District.
